first off, i want to say that this app looks really promising. i watched your youtube videos and am very impressed with what i saw. good work!
i am actually interested in using Qex for something other than D&D (other miniature and rpg games) so i had some questions about customization.
* what sort of model format does Qex accept? * what sort of materials can those models have (any complex shaders like with normals and spec maps)? * does it use a specific lighting model?
another question is if it has a dice roller built in?
again, i'm pretty excited about trying Qex out. thanks for all your hard work so far.

Qex uses its own format internally, so it comes with an import utility called "GraphicLoader".
Current GraphicLoader will read .dxf and .3ds formats.
You can use GraphicLoader to get everything sized correctly. Normals & Mapping coordinates are read from the .3ds file, so if the model is complex, I recommend exporting to .3ds. You can apply transparency (Alpha blends) to your textures too.

Qex has no Lightning model... it simply shines 2 default lights from opposite corners of the map. A (far) future version of Qex will have localized lighting (eg torches etc) and shadows. There's been some interest expressed in simulating lighting conditions.
There is no dice roller - the test group hasn't needed one. If you had a built-in die roller, what would it look like?

We use Qex for tabletop play - so we can just roll the dice physically. Added "Shared Dice Roller Window" to build path for next release... It will be in a secondary window that users can call up under VIEW (or perhaps under WINDOW) and will store past rolls.

that sounds terrific!
so what do you guys do if not all your players are local? or do you not normally play that way?

We don't have any remote members. This is part of the reason Qex has no chat window (the other part of the reason is that Skype/MSN are so good at chat)...
You're the first user to mention wanting to use it for a mini's game. I'm sure there'll be questions about how to script powers - maybe even slight adjustments required to the scripting engine, so feel free to let me know.
